John Bās Beta Recordings provides a storming end to the summer with an epic, yet snarling dancefloor 12ā from the precocious new talent Xilent.
Originally from Poland, young drum & bass producer Xilent now resides in Edinburgh, Scotland. After first breaking onto the scene in 2007 he has steadily risen through the ranks with his intense, muscular yet funky and uplifting style.
āStep Oneā the title track is the kind of epic opener that John B tears up arenas with on a weekly basis. Opening with massive hands-up trance synths, it breaks down into a snarling beast, morphing the synths into a dancefloor behemoth. Take a breather during the breakdown before the second drop smacks you straight in the face all over again.
āIrreversibleā rolls in sleekly with otherworldly synths and whispered ethereal vocals, the tension building with every bar. What is in store, though, is fearsome: a stuttering growling monster bassline, kept in kicked into shape by whip-cracking snares.
āTwiceā maintains that blurred line between epic and filth ā but states its intentions early on with bassbin shaking kick drums overlaying the echoing stabs, before true urgency of the drop ensues.

John Bās Beta Recordings label continues its fine return with this new EP courtesy of Receptor.
Receptor is no stranger to an array of styles; this eclectic talent has been helping him make his mark since 1997. Hailing from the East the Russian producer certainly brings with him an electric twist.
On āPrincessā donāt let the title fool you, this track is no fairy tale. The beat kicks in like no other with a raw undertone that will have the crowd bouncing along. Itās sure to be the one tune everyone is talking about after the weekend.
āGirlsā with its series of breaks and beats blending into a broken yet pulsating rhythm, it wonāt be just the girls who canāt help moving; this one will shake everybody!
āAssā kicks off with an attention grabbing high note over a simmering beat that drops manically ensuring no one is able to resist the call of the dance floor once this one is in full swing. It draws you in to its intensity and once itās dropped, keeps you with it until the very end. āBelka & Strelkaā ushers in a change in rhythm compared to the previous tracks. A fairly light and liquid style of Drum & Bass, the melodies blend nicely over a solid undercurrent of bass. One to turn up loud on the way to the club!

Hot on the heels of Camo & Krookedās āEdge of Mindā EP comes a debut single from Polandās Xilent, another bright new talent unearthed by Mr. John B.
āKilling Spreeā opens with swirling atmospherics that conjure the mood whilst a snarly melodic bassline whirrs into action, underpinned by charging percussion and some extremely slick edits.

āDislocationā takes a more straight forward approach with an arpeggiated synth hook reeling us into a drop of epic proportions before Xilent unleashes even more edit abuse, twisting and contorting his sublime soundscape into a new beast for the second drop.

Xilent (Eryk Kowalczyk) is a young drum’n'bass producer. Originally from Warsaw (Poland), Eryk produced his first bits at the age of nine, when he was introduced to the Propellerhead Rebirth RB-338 synthesizer set. From then on, he tended to diversify his sound from techno, through breakbeat, finally to find his place in the drum’n'bass genre, influenced by artists like DJ Rap, Future Cut, Calyx, Concord Dawn. Throughout that time he also found himself playing the drums in a few hardcore punk bands like Fast Forward.
His official drum’n'bass career began in 2007 when he was noticed by a recording label called Shadowforces, and not much time has passed since he published his first track on a vinyl under the label alongside many other artists’ quality tracks. During the next two years Xilent moved to Edinburgh (Scotland) and has become a member of international labels such as Beta Recordings managed by John B himself, Ammunition Recordings, Mindtech Recordings and more. This time with influences from fat cats like Spor, Apex or Miss Redflower he managed to create his own style with heavy beats and addictive melodies. Many of his digital releases have seen the light of day hitting the top drum’n'bass charts on Juno or TrackItDown, one of which was rated “one of the biggest tracks of 2009 without a shadown” and even a “drum’n'bass anthem” – (‘Terminal’, Ammunition Rec., rated by TrackItDown). In December 2009 Xilent played for the first time live in Poland (Lodz) and he claims there will be more, the first of which is in Berlin in January 2010.

New John B & Beta Recordings Webstore Launched!
We’re proud to announce the launch of our brand new webstore at www.beta-store.com
Thanks to the amazing skills of our new web designer genius Mike @ bozboz.co.uk and Trickartt at www.trickartt.com and a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the Beta Recordings office AND several million hours climbing around in the loft going through all our back catalogue and checking stock levels – we’re finally there!
The new webstore has a much better system for dealing with digital downloads, we sell bundles now too which is great for albums, and we’re planning on putting up some previously unavailable stuff too – like John’s first album, ‘Visions’ and a previously very limited USA only release of ‘Brainstorm’ – plus lots more classics, remastered & remixed – but more on that later.
We’ve also massively improved the shipping system – every item has its weight recorded, so when you check out all you have to do is tell us which country you live in, the webstore works out the total weight of everything you ordered and then calculates the correct shipping, so no more searching for the right shipping option in a huge list, and no more accidental overcharging or any of that rubbish! Lovely!
We’ve got loads of back catalogue up now, (if it’s displayed on the site then we have it in stock!) – and some really cool new stuff coming in time for Christmas too (did someone say JOHN B SNOWGLOBES!? haha!)
So go check out www.beta-store.com right now and bag yourself some electropunkrobotikDrum&Bass – mp3s are only 89p!
